Nutrition Basics That Actually Work (And What to Ignore)
Three principles do 90% of the work. The other 10% is what the wellness industry sells you. Here's the short list.

Walk into any bookstore and you'll find a hundred diet books contradicting each other. Keto. Carnivore. Plant-based. Intermittent fasting. Macro counting. Intuitive eating. The noise is deafening — and most of it is profitable noise, not useful nutrition.
After years of coaching women through every protocol you can name, I can tell you the truth: three principles do the heavy lifting. Get those right and the rest is optimization.
Principle one: protein at every meal
Most women I onboard are eating roughly half the protein they need. Aim for 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of goal bodyweight, spread across three to four meals. A palm-sized portion of meat, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese or quality protein powder hits the target.
Protein does three things nothing else can: it builds and preserves the muscle that gives your body shape, it keeps you full for hours, and it stabilizes blood sugar so you stop crashing at 3pm.
Principle two: eat real food, mostly plants and animals
Forget the food group politics. The simplest rule: if it grew or it walked, eat it freely. If it came from a factory with a 14-ingredient list, eat it occasionally. Whole foods naturally regulate calories because they're harder to over-eat than engineered hyperpalatables.
Build every plate around a protein, a vegetable or two, a smart carb (rice, potato, fruit, oats) and a thumb of fat (olive oil, avocado, nuts). That single template will outperform 90% of restrictive diets long-term.
Principle three: track briefly, then trust
Track your food honestly for two weeks. Not forever — two weeks. Most women have no idea what they're actually eating, and the awareness alone produces results. After that, you'll know roughly what a day of good eating looks like and you can stop counting.
What to ignore
Detoxes, cleanses, fat-burning supplements, alkaline water, celery juice protocols, anything that promises results without effort. Your liver and kidneys detox you for free, 24 hours a day. Save your money for groceries.
